European Council adopts new directive for resolving double tax disputes

The European Council has adopted a directive introducing a new system for resolving double taxation disputes between member states.
At the meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council configuration (ECOFIN) in Luxembourg on 10 October 2017, finance ministers adopted a directive introducing a new system for resolving double taxation disputes between member states. The directive strengthens the mechanisms used to resolve disputes between member states that arise from the interpretation of agreements on the elimination of double taxation. The directive was adopted without discussion following an agreement at the Council's meeting on 23 May 2017.
