HOC Library briefing paper: Stamp duty land tax on residential property
Released 06 December 2017
The HOC Library has published a briefing paper looking at reforms to stamp duty land tax and previous debate on the impact of stamp duty.
Following the 2017 Autumn Budget announcement of a new relief to be included in Finance (No.2) Bill 2017, providing that for first time buyers, the price at which a property becomes liable for SDLT would be set at £300,000, the House of Commons Library has published a briefing paper discussing the reforms to taxation of sales of residential property that have been made in recent years, before looking at earlier debates about the way house sales have been taxed.
