ICAEW highlights GAAR panel recruiting new members

Released 12 February 2018

HMRC are inviting applications from qualified and experienced individuals to become a member of the GAAR Advisory Panel.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has published a tax news blog highlighting that the General Anti-abuse Advisory Panel is seeking to recruit up to six new members to replace five of the existing 11 members who are standing down in 2018. The Commissioner for HMRC appoints members of the Advisory Panel which reviews cases involving tax avoidance arrangements to ensure that they do genuinely fall foul of the double reasonableness test; that is, ‘arrangements which cannot reasonably be regarded as a reasonable course of action in relation to the relevant tax provisions.’. Details of the application process are available by clicking here
